Dukas’ heroic brass fanfare to La Peri opens this MSO concert of
French orchestral masterpieces. Fauré’s somber, descriptive
incidental music for Pelléas et Mélisande and Debussy’s
playful Rhapsody for Clarinet, performed by MSO clarinetist Kate Berning-Alfred,
whet the musical appetite for the program’s pièce de résistance,
Saint-Saën’s magnificent Organ Symphony, led by William Schrickel
and featuring organist Kathrine Handford.
