Russian Showcase and MSO Benefit
Shchedrin’s Carmen–Suite is a fantastical reworking of the music from Georges Bizet’s immensely popular opera. William Schrickel leads the strings of the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and 5 percussionists (performing on no fewer than 52 different instruments!) in Shchedrin’s amazing ballet score. Tchaikovsky finished his Symphony #6 just days before his mysterious death. Dark and melancholic, with occasional flashes of blinding light and manic energy, the Pathetique is the greatest of Tchaikovsky’s symphonies. Come to the church early and bid on the fabulous items offered in the silent auction—all proceeds benefit the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra.
